What is a Sheba number?

Sheba is the bank account identifier used in Iran, also known as an Iranian IBAN. It starts with IR followed by 24 digits. A Sheba number identifies a bank account and is different from a bank card number.

What does this Sheba checker validate?

Accepted Answer

The tool checks the Sheba’s length, structure and checksum using the MOD-97 calculation. It also attempts to identify the bank from the bank code within the number. Where available, the result shows the bank’s name and logo.

Does a successful check confirm the account exists or belongs to the recipient?

Accepted Answer

No. A successful result means the Sheba passes the tool’s structure and checksum checks and, where indicated, its bank has been identified. It does not confirm that the account exists, is active or belongs to a particular person. When you make a transfer in the Persia Money app, we also perform Confirmation of Payee (CoP) checks to check the recipient’s name against the account details, help prevent fraud and meet local regulatory requirements. These are separate from this public Sheba checker. Always confirm the account details with the recipient before sending money.

Can I find the bank’s name from a Sheba number?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The tool uses the bank code within the Sheba to look up the bank in its reference data. If a match is available, it displays the bank’s name and, where available, its logo. A missing logo does not mean the Sheba is invalid.

Question 5

Why might my Sheba fail validation or its bank not be identified?

Accepted Answer

An incorrect length, an unexpected character or a failed checksum can cause validation to fail. A bank may not be identified if its code is not found in the tool’s reference data, even when the structure and checksum pass. Compare the number with the recipient’s bank-issued details rather than changing digits yourself.

Can this tool convert a card number or account number into a Sheba?

Accepted Answer

This page checks an existing Sheba number; it does not convert a card number or account number into one. To obtain your Sheba, use your bank’s official app, online banking or Sheba lookup service.

Question 7

Is my Sheba number saved, and does checking it initiate a transfer?

Accepted Answer

No. Your Sheba is sent to our server for validation and bank identification, but it is not saved by this tool. Checking a Sheba does not initiate a transfer or move money.
